L Residence
-2024
Changning District, Shanghai
Located near the iconic Wukang Mansion, designed by Hungarian-Slovak architect László Hudec in Shanghai’s French Concession, this residential interior project draws from the contextual themes of expatriate French influences to reconstruct a modern living space.
The overall color scheme presents cream white as the main tone, complemented by green and black accents to distill urban vitality and French romanticism into a light ambiance. The space breaks away from traditional layouts, employing a hidden sliding door system in place of solid partition walls. This allows the 75m² apartment to achieve a dynamic balance between openness and privacy. At the same time, living spaces incorporate greenery and natural light to create a breathable, poetic dwelling within the concrete jungle.
The design goes beyond visual presentation and focuses on the essence of everyday life: curved forms soften architectural edges, modular furniture adapts to diverse inhabitation scenarios, and the shadows of the plane trees outside mingle with the soft green walls of the interior through the floor-to-ceiling windows. This space serves not only as a convenient residence near the urban core of the city, but also as a vessel that embodies French elegance, offering a tranquil refuge for city dwellers amidst the fast-paced rhythm of urban life.
